Arvind Kejriwal, the chief minister of Delhi, made his appearance via video conference before the Delhi Rouse Avenue Court on Saturday. He requested an exemption from making a physical appearance for the day because the Budget session was ongoing and because he had called a confidence motion in the Delhi assembly. According to the summons served on him in response to the ED’s complaint about his failure to appear before the agency, Arvind Kejriwal was required to appear in court.
Arvind Kejriwal’s attorney stated that his client will show up in person on the following hearing date.
Arvind Kejriwal appeared before the court via videoconference, informing them that he was unable to personally appear because of the ongoing budget session and the assembly’s deliberation of a confidence motion. The case is scheduled for March 16 by the court.
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) filed a complaint against the Delhi Chief Minister (CM) for allegedly ignoring summonses in a case related to excise policies. The Delhi court requested that the national convenor of the Aam Aami Party appear before it on February 17 and stated that the CM was presumed to be “legally bound” to comply.
After Arvind Kejriwal ignored five ED summonses to appear for interrogation in a money laundering case involving the Delhi liquor policy, the agency filed a motion in court. Arvind Kejriwal received a sixth summons from the ED earlier this week to appear for questioning. On February 19, he is scheduled to give a deposition before the federal agency.
Motion of confidence in Delhi Assembly is moved by Arvind Kejriwal
Since seven of the eight BJP legislators were suspended for the remainder of the session for allegedly interfering during the Lt Governor’s address on Thursday, the motion will be discussed in the Delhi assembly on Saturday in the presence of the opposition leader, Ramvir Singh Bidhuri, and MLAs from the ruling Aam Aadmi Party.
The Kejriwal government is requesting a vote of confidence from the 70 members of the assembly for the second time. The BJP has eight MLAs while the AAP has sixty-two in the current assembly.
The chief minister stated, “Two MLAs had come to me saying they were contacted by BJP members offering them ₹25 crore each,” when he tabled the vote for confidence on Friday. They were informed that the government will fall and that Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal would be imprisoned.”
They were also informed that 21 MLAs are in contact with the BJP. Their ‘Operation Lotus’ has included several attempts to speak with our MLAs. Our MLAs were steadfast even on this occasion.”
He asserted the falsity of the Delhi excise policy case. Manish Sisodia and Sanjay Singh, two of Kejriwal’s most reliable advisors, are incarcerated in relation to the excise policy issue.
Even with 62 MLAs backing him, Ramvir Singh Bidhuri said Arvind Kejriwal’s confidence was shattered because he was bringing up the trust vote motion.
Bidhuri went on to say that it was unexpected that Arvin Kejriwal was filing a motion of confidence accusing the BJP of attempting to steal AAP MLAs, but he was not providing the police, who had already issued him a notice, with any proof of this.
Speaker of the Delhi Assembly Ram Niwas Goel announced that Arvind Kejriwal’s motion for confidence will be discussed on Saturday.
