PM Modi will begin the opening of a portion of Mumbai’s coastal road on February 19th.

On February 19, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will open a portion of the city’s coastal route, running from Marine Drive to Bindumadhav Thackeray Chowk in Worli, according to sources acquainted with the matter who spoke to the press on Friday. The nine-kilometer section will be accessible to the public on February 20 following the inauguration.

The coastal route that links Marine Drive to Bandra Worli Sea Link is a project of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). The first underwater tunnel in the nation, measuring 2.072 kilometers, would be located on the section of the four-lane road that heads south.

The people claim that over 84% of the principal construction has been done on the 10.58 km project, with the remaining portion scheduled for completion by May.

The project has a budget of Rs. 2,900 crore in the current BMC budget for 2024–2025.

This amount covers the money needed to build the 7.5 km promenade and cycle track, underground parking spaces, 70 hectares of green space on reclaimed land, and compensation to fishermen whose livelihoods have been impacted by the project. All of these projects are expected to be finished by the end of 2025.

As of January 23, 84% of the sea wall, 83% of the interchanges, 97% of the reclamation work, and 85.5% of the bridge work were finished.

The project will cost Rs. 27,400 crore in its entirety, from the Marine via the Versona interchange to Dahisar. Iqbal S. Chahal, the BMC commissioner, claims that work orders have been issued for the whole stretch.
